Luis Garcia is Chair of the Craig Richardson Institute of Food Processing Technology and Trades and Apprenticeship (Millwright) at Conestoga College. He holds a M. Sc. degree in Food Science from the University of Guelph.
Luis began his career doing research in food science and then moved on to conduct roles in QA, R&D and Plant Management in the food industry.
From 2003 to 2010, Luis worked as Food Scientist and as Traceability Coordinator with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs conducting research on unpasteurized apple cider and sprouts, participating in the development of food safety and traceability programs for the food industry, and working on the implementation of cleaning and sanitation programs in small processing operations.
Luis joined Conestoga College in January, 2010 with the responsibility to develop programs that meet the needs of the food and beverage manufacturing industry through the Institute of Food Processing Technology (IFPT). To date, the IFPT runs several full time and part time training programs and conducts applied research projects that address industry’s technical challenges.
